question about sororities and gpas.

by:

I'm a senior in high school now and am sure I want to attend this school. I'm also interested in joining a sorority when I come here, but the only issue is that my current GPA, while not drastically low, is not one I would feel comfortable risking rushing with. What I was wondering is if I rush second semester of my freshman year, would they take my first semester college GPA into consideration rather than my high school one? Basically, all I want to know is whether or not there comes a time where they drop your high school GPA out of the picture and only focus on your college GPA. I'd appreciate any help.

I honestly wouldn't be worried about your GPA being too low. Usually its just a threshold level for sororities that's already super low (like 3.0 ) so unless your below that, I wouldn't worry about your GPA. A higher one for high school or college won't help you get into your top house anyway. Hope this helps!!

there's no formal recruitment in the spring so your only chance at that point would be to COB (continuous open bidding) which a handful of sororities do every year depending on if they need to get their member count up. Otherwise, if it's really that low, you could still try rushing 1st semester and see what happens. Some houses will take grade risks. And then if that doesn't go how you want it to you can always rush again during possible spring COB or sophomore year formal :)

but also to answer your question, yes! after you've been in college for at least one full semester that's the GPA they'll look at and your high school GPA becomes irrelevant
