If you have only one pref invite, you will receive a bid from that house.

If you have two pref invites, you'll get placed in one house or the other. Depending on where you fall on a house's list (yes pnms are ranked first list/second list), and how bid matching goes, you might get your 2nd choice. So know that going in when you rank and sign your MRABA. If you absolutely cannot see yourself in either of your choices, and you only want one house, then you "suicide" (single intentional pref or SIP for short) and take your chances on not getting into that house and not being eligible for COB or to re rush until next fall.

There's also the issue of legacy status and whether or not legacies are automatically placed on the first bid list for a chapter. Some chapters have to put legacies on the first list, others don't.

This all dassumes that you didn't do anything stupid (think criminal behavior or something like that, like you got drunk yesterday and ended up in the ER) that would make you totally unacceptable as a member. It has happened...
