is rushing popular/needed?

Please be honest in your response, not rude. I am going to be a Incoming Freshman at U of A. I am debating whether or not to rush. I was wondering how popular it is to be in a Sorority at Arizona. Is it necessary in order to have a social life like it is in some southern schools like Alabama. I am just curious. I am not the biggest girly girl. Mostly, I love the outdoors, backpacking, am a yoga instructor, and rock climber. What is Arizona's greek system like? Do I have to join in order to have fun/ not be an outcast? as ridiculous as that sounds.
