what do sororities look for during rush?

by:

What's the most important factor for each house? How are looks, grades, involvements, and money weighted? When they look at your Instagram, are they just looking at your photos or do your followers and likes matter? For gpa, and I guess other factors, is it just a base cut or is having a very high gpa more valued? If I have a low-ish gpa (I think I'll meet base cuts, but it's not impressive), but I'm pretty strong everywhere else, would I still be cut in favor of someone with a 4.0 or close to it? How much do connections with girls really help you if you have weak areas?

every house is different but I will say grades DEFINITELY are important and even if you are a "perfect 10" model type who would be a great fit in a certain house- you will get cut if your grades aren't good, and it will likely happen before the house has a chance to get to know you at all. this is mainly because of the amount of girls that go through rush. it is the easiest way to weed out girls in the beginning. expect heavy cuts for grades at the start if you have below a 3.0.

What if you know girls in the houses though? If you have the "look" they want and you already know some girls who are active members, will you still initially get cut for grades or do those connections help you get through certain rounds?

hard to answer because I don't know which house(s) you are wondering about or what your exact GPA is. but regarding your question about grade cuts being avoided if you have "the look," look at it this way: UofA is FULL of attractive, well-put together girls who have a 3.0 and higher. houses aren't losing out on options by cutting girls who have a low GPA-they will still have plenty of sought after PNMs to choose from. so PNMs, please don't think you're a shoe-in at any house...mostly because that's a bad attitude to have...and also because looks, money, and connections won't help you out of a bad GPA.

is 2.8 low enough where heavy cuts will happen? this is making me feel like i'll get cut everywhere. i didnt think grades were the MAIN thing houses look for here....

Every year in the summer girls come on here nervous about grades during rush. Just go through and see what happens. Or if you think you should focus on school then do that for your first year and go through recruitment as a sophomore.
Also, I don't think a PNM should already know what house they want, but if you already think you want a house that is known for looking for the more superficial things (looks, popularity, etc), those houses will still do grade cuts initially. Like an above poster said there are attractive girls all over this campus with good GPAs so even the houses with high return rates have no issue cutting girls with low GPAs.

OP here, first off, thanks to everyone who responded. Anyways, I know grade cuts tend to be strict. I have a 3.3 so I'm pretty sure I'll meet cuts at most houses (lmk if that's wrong though). I just know even if I do meet cuts that it's not a particularly impressive gpa and was wondering if it will matter once initial grade cuts are made. If I have a better look or better conversations etc. than a girl with a 4.0, is there a chance I'd still be cut in favor of a high gpa, or do houses just use grades to narrow it down in the beginning and focus on other factors for the rest of rush? Sorry, if I worded it poorly in the initial post

Does that's GPA cut change if you have already completed one year of college credits? If so is there a different cut? Because I know they say 3.0 out of high school

If you have below a 3.0 you will most likely get cut from a good amount of houses because what minimum gpa accepted is up to that sororities nationals. So, it doesn’t matter if you have good looks or know people in the house. If you have below a 3.0 you’ll get cut and the girls you know can’t do anything about it

Is having above a 3.0 the only time gpa matters? If you meet that, are you fine for grades or do they still rank girls based on gpa throughout rush?
