by:

Hi guys so I just transfered out of community college this Fall 2017 semester . A lot of crap went down in my life so thats why I'm so old as a sophmore, but if i decided to leave home to finish school i should get the full college experience. So i will like to rush this Spring semester but what are my chances for any fraternities giving me a bid? what will anyone think? how will it make me look?

and please guys mature answers i need advice

lmfao at this thread. i mean op go for it and rush, but be ready to explain why you're age as a sophomore. as for the other people that said he's too old.... you guys are treating him like he's in his late 30s or 40s, the guy is still in his early 20s so how is he too old to be a part of greek? he said he transferred from community college so he pretty much has the "college mentality" of a freshman. he may not be as immature as a 19yo, but sincee this is his first time in a real college.... he prob would be very involved in participating in activities that benefit the house, plus he's still young to bond and hang out with all the age groups in the house.

so i'm just going over other schools' greekrank sections and ran into this thread. you guys are ridiculous if you want to deny getting to know someone because of age. what if he's a quality potential that could do big things to the house but he's getting denied or discourage not to join because he is 24. PSA.... not everyone in greek is 18. smh

hey guys so i also just transferred from community college from out of state as well. and i also want to rush a fraternity but I'm 23, should i still give it a shot. The reason im also late into college is because i waited 2 years for a medical waive from the Air Force which i never got, and after that i just promoted social events on the side while getting some gen eds classes so i could transfer out of state.

so is it even worth it me trying to rush?

i've met other transfer students too which are 21+ who are interested in rushing as well. im easy to get along with anyone i guess since im currently dorming at AzSo and the people there dont even mind that I'm 21+.

dude you're fine at rushing at your age (being a sophomore helps you a bit). stop being so hung up on age not everyone in Greek is 18/19. they will deff. grill you on why you're your age being a sophomore, but its not gonna be a definite no. at my cousin's school (huge sec) one of the top houses gave a bid to 22 year old transfer(non military). so during rush week be yourself (don't fake it because THEY WILL NOTICE) and just have fun, you are looking for which house you will be spending most of your time with man.

No one is stopping you from rushing. The real question is are you OK with being in the same pledge class as a group of 18-19 year olds and getting hazed by kids half a decade younger than you? Plus what house would want you around old man-creeping the sororities and girls at parties? It's just weird af.

how will he be creeping out the girls at parties if he looks young? and i dont think he has a problem with being with men ages 19 since he clearly wants to rush a frat lmfao. and you're acting like there are only 18-19 year olds in greek only. get over yourself

I think they mean the OP could probably pledge FIJI since they just returned to campus. Maybe TKE too but FIJI is the better choice.

^^^^^^^^

that makes sense, are any of them going to have a house next fall? why is FIJI better than TKE? And why are houses that just came back more favorable for older potential PC?

im asking all of these questions because i also transferred from CC and i'm a 21 yold Sophomore. Im so late because i decided to DJ gigs and promote events after high school.

Think of it this way, someone that old has little chance of getting a bid from a top and maybe even the top-middle and mid tier houses. So, the choice is whether to pledge a bottom frat or a new chapter that's coming back.

Going to a bottom tier house is OK if you just want the Greek letters on your resume or are not picky about who your friends are. You'll probably be stuck in a mediocre brotherhood with poor social, rep, and network but for some people that's just fine.

For people who want something more it might be better to look into one of the frats coming back, Fiji and Teke. But Teke has never been a good frat at the UofA, Fiji has. You'll be a part of something bigger and better by pledging Fiji even if they are in a rebuilding phase. JMO. But in the end, you should go wherever you feel you fit in the best.

Only issue I’d see is you’re not going to enjoy getting hazed by people 2-5 years younger than you. And sorry, you will get hazed unless it’s Sig Ep

thats cool with me, hazing is not going to last forever. the benefits outweigh the hazing
