pnms- ask your questions here

by: senior

Instead of starting a bunch of new threads for each individual question, ask anything you want to know here and actives will answer it.

Good luck with recruitment. I know yall are stressed but try to relax. It's going to be fine. :)

Ask anything you're unsure about. There's no such thing as stupid questions.

I was wondering why they drop you based on your GPA? It think it's so dumb that so many houses the 1st round based you on your GPA! Like obviously if I'm in college I'm not dumb and yes I understand my GPA wasn't the best but I was going through a really rough time in high school and I wished they knew that I'm a better student and can achieve more than what my GPA showed! I'm just super annoyed how they base one on their grades.

There are several reasons.

First, the sororities HAVE to make cuts. There are 1600 girls rushing and they may want to invite back 1200 of them. But they can't. They have to make tough decisions and since you can't really get to know someone from a 10 minute conversation, the easiest way to make cuts is by GPA.

Second, GPA's matter to sororities. We need our all house gpa to be above a certain percentage or else we are put on probation. We may love you, but you're a risk we can't take.

Third, it doesn't matter if you aren't dumb and were dealing with some rough stuff during high school. It's college, we're adults, and no one cares about your sob story. And before you call me a meanie, I rushed with a 2.8. I also had a rough time in high school. Was bullied and severely depressed. Also dealt with a life threatening health problem my junior year! And yes, I ended up in a house I didn't love during rush. (Love it now though!) And since I'm an adult, I understand that there are consequences for my low gpa, even though I AM a smart girl and do well in college now. Yes I had legit reasons for a poor gpa but in the real world, there are no excuses, even if they are legitimate. And you're not the only one with good reasons for a poor gpa. You're one of hundreds. Yes, hundreds of girls rushing have perfectly valid excuses for why their gpa in high school was so low.

(cont'd) Also, even if you did have a good gpa, you could still very well have been cut by a lot of houses. If they REALLY loved you and thought you were worth the risk, they could have easily made an exception. But they didn't.

So it wasn't meant to be. Move on. Everything happens for a reason. You were not cut from recruitment all together. I know for a fact no one was. You have at least one house left. They DID make an exception for you because they like you and want to get to know you better. They invited you into THEIR home and are doing their best to make you feel welcome. The least you could do is give them a chance. They're doing the same for you.

Also, I'm sorry if anything I said was harsh. But the truth is harsh. And like I said, I was literally in your same shoes. Being cut hurts. It does. Rush is hard. But being in a sorority is better than not being in one. SO many of the girls who drop out because they don't like their remaining options regret it. They end up rushing again their sophomore year and surprise surprise they get invited back to the same houses. Because those were the houses that loved them. Except this time around, they gave them a chance, joined their houses, and wished they had that extra year to spend with them that they threw away.

Ok but when I rushed at another college , I wasn't in any Probation comming in as a new member looking at my GPA specifically sooooo. They don't initiate you unless once in college your college GPA is bad in which case by the time you initiate you should be able to cause you fixed your grades.
