pnms- ask your questions here

by:

Instead of starting a bunch of new threads for each individual question, ask anything you want to know here and actives will answer it.

Good luck with recruitment. I know yall are stressed but try to relax. It's going to be fine. :)

Ask anything you're unsure about. There's no such thing as stupid questions.

Do i even have a chance of getting a bid to a sorority with a 2.99

By: Pnm
by: active

Yes. I rushed with a 2.8. You just need to be open minded and accept whatever houses invite you back.

Yes it's possible. Keep an open mind but if you're looking for a top house they could take you as a grade risk, if they really like you, and if you don't like the houses you got because of grades drop and rush again next year. A lot of girls do that and their sophomore year with improved grades end up with a house they really like.

You won't have many options with that GPA. You need to be very open minded.

Do EC's matter? I put some on my app but I took one off a few days because it wasn't considered a Registered club on campus. I'm worried now that it might render my chance since I just took it off.

By: EC
by: senior

To give you an idea of whether extracurriculars matter, we don't make cuts based on whether you have enough ECs or not. However, your ECs and hobbies tell us which active we should have talk to you during rush. And since the actives who rank you are the ones you actually talk to, you're more likely to receive a higher score if you have a lot in common with the active you're talking to.

But we won't look at your application and cut you if you don't have enough ECs. (Unless you have none at all)

Another way they'll help is if we're specifically looking to recruit more girls involved in a certain type of thing. We want to have a well rounded house which means girls in student government, girls in sports, girls in other things, etc. So if we have a disproportionate amount of girls in government and we want more in sports, we'll specifically look for girls who did sports in HS.

Contact them and ask. This isn't really the place for questions like that. Put on your big boy pants and call them.

How important are recs for sororities?

By: Wondering
by: not

not important chill anyone can get a rec

They definitely help especially for top tier houses.

by: senior

Don't listen to anyone who tells you recs aren't important. They are very important. The sorority members who tell you they don't matter have absolutely ZERO idea what goes on behind the scenes during rush.

I'm not going to get into the reasons why they matter, because at this point if you don't have them, it's too late. All you can do is relax and hope for the best.

Plenty of girls who don't have recs get bids to great houses. So you don't NEED recs. However, if we're having a hard time deciding between two equally great girls, and one of them has a glowing rec and the other didn't get any, we will 100% go with the girl with the rec.

It gives you an edge. But if you're a 4.0 student who is drop dead gorgeous, a legacy, has friends/connections to the house, you're probably already a top recruit and you don't really need the boost that a rec gives you. But for the majority of PNMs, recs are incredibly useful.

is it okay to wear a skirt for round 1 if that's what i normally wear on casual days?

By: pnm
by: senior

Yep, skirts are fine as long as it's a casual skirt. You do not want to stand out amongst the other pnms. It's a casual round and you don't want to appear too dressy or it will be awkward. I wore a skirt for set 1 and it was fine. But it was a really casual skirt from urban and I paired it with a tshirt. Just don't wear wedges or heels.

If I have a 3.18 as of my junior year of highschool but with my senior year of highschool I have a 3.5 which GPA would I put down and if it's 3.18 would it be hard to get a bid?

By: idk
by: @idk

Registration already ended. Why are you worried about which GPA to put down? You can't sign up anymore.

Anything over a 3.0 is considered fine.

You have until August 10th to send in transcripts to fix your GPA

You'll be fine. Anything over a 3.0 is good for most houses. Chi O might cut you for being under a 3.5 but thats just one house.

I was told that the last date to turn in updated transcripts to IFC or Panelllenic was August 10th which is tomorrow. My summer class doesn't end till tomorrow. So do I just email Panhellenic tomorrow with my updated transcript.

By: Re
by: yes

Unfortunately your class that ends tomorrow won't have any affect. If your class ends tomorrow, you won't have your final grade for several days.

My teacher said that's when she'll post final grades.

By: Re
by: @Re

Then I'm not sure what the problem is. If tomorrow is the last day to submit grades, and you'll have your grades by tomorrow, then you should submit them. If you don't have your final grade, then you can't submit anything by the deadline.

That's something you should confirm with Panhel. I think this thread was more about generic recruitment advice. Questions about actual logistics and dates should be directed to the Greek life office. You never know if someone here is telling the truth.

ill be on my period during rush and was wondering if i'll be able to bring a little bag to put tampons in and then put it in the plastic bag? i just would rather not carry around a plastic bag full of tampons

by: Not a big deal

Honestly i dont think anyone will care if they see you carrying around tampons if thats what your worried about. Im sure half of the girls there will be too

By: Not a big deal

by: @stressed

Yeah that's fine! You can still have a small bag to keep personal items, it just has to all fit inside the large plastic bag you'll be given. So if you don't want your tampons just floating around in the bag you can put them inside another bag like a coin purse to go inside the plastic bag.
