gphi or zate? considering cob

by:

I know this is early, but I really want to COB and the two houses I liked most during recruitment were Gphi and Zeta. Any advice on which one to go for (I'm trying to make friends in that chapter, so I'll have a chance of being invited).

if those houses are COB, it will be competitive. They most likely know who they want already. Wait until next year.

I doubt they'll be cobing. There were so many pnms this year, every single chapter made quota. XO and AXO probably will because they have smaller chapters, but outside of those it's really just a random result of what houses have members graduating early.

Freshman quota is the total number of freshman PNMs who end up getting bids (so everyone who comes to pref night, minus a few who suicide and it doesn't work out) divided by 12, rounded down. This year quota was 33 and a few chapters got 34.

Sophomore quota is the total number of sophomore PNMs who end up getting bids (so everyone who comes to pref night, minus a few who suicide and it doesn't work out) divided by 12, rounded down. This year quota was 4 and a few chapters got 5.

Thus, total quota was (33+4=) 37, and maximum any chapter got was (34+5=) 39. Last year, quota was somewhere between 38 and 40. I think 40, but I'm not sure.

The ONLY ways your chapter could be under quota, post-recruitment:
1. You had a bunch of girls drop fall quarter and haven't made it up by COB-ing yet.
2. You cut too many girls in early rounds of recruitment, so the system punished you. (This did not happen to any chapter this year, but supposedly happened to A Phi last year, though I can't verify.)
3. Some of the girls in your pledge class dropped (e.g. didn't show up to bid night, dropped after bid night, etc.).

If you're under quota now, your national chapter will try to make you COB (chapters have to report campus quota). If you're at/over quota now, you're not allowed to COB.

No chapter can really be classified as "smaller than others," because we're all supposed to be at quota. But, yes, any chapter that has a significant number of deactivations or early graduations at a given time becomes eligible to COB.

my chapters new pc this year was 42 so i don't think thats right.... also you can say chapters are smaller than others, not every chapter makes quota every year. so some are smaller and may not have made up for lack of quota in previous years through cob, and therefore need to cob this year, even if they made quota for the year

I realize we're talking about two types of "quota" - PHA chapter quota (which is set by PHA each quarter) and recruitment quota (which was 37 this year, as explained in my comments above). I literally saw every chapter's bid list, and none had more than 34 freshmen and 5 sophomores. Your chapter could not have given out more than 39 bids on bid night from the formal recruitment process. However, if your chapter was under the PHA-ordained chapter quota when adding together your actives and new member class, maybe you were allowed to add a few snap-bids/COBs to your pledge class to bring it up to 42.

Depending on their current house totals, neither of those houses may COB. However, don't dismiss the houses that do invite you. They're obviously interested in getting to know you better, which is very good thing!

Both houses are known for having chill, down-to-earth girls with good sisterhoods and senses of humor. Most people's favorite houses on campus at least from people Ive talked to. I don't really think you could go wrong either way.
