This is from my perspective, after a quarter of rushing. Obviously, this will change with new classes in the winter.
Side Note: Ranks really became less important for me over the quarter. I stopped at all the top houses, and only clicked at one. I am rushing a house in the top tier and one in the middle tier. I think pledging will be much easier at the middle tier house, and honestly, that's swaying me towards them. Moreover, most of my friends are about this middle tier house...so we'll see come rush week where I decide to focus. Any thoughts?

I would avoid letting the perceived harshness of each chapter's pledging be a major factor - it's a very brief period of time and likely isn't as difficult as you think it will be (this is NU after all).
That being said, if most of your friends are hot on another chapter, then thats definitely a major factor take into account.
Ultimately though, this is YOUR decision - not your friends. Choose the right place for you, where you see yourself meshing the best and where you identify the most with in terms of personalities, character, and values.
