difference?

is there really a difference between the sororities in each tier? like is tridelt significantly better than theta? or achio better than chio? is it better to not affiliate than to join a bottom tier

No, there's not much difference within tiers if you're talking ranks but there's often a ton of difference in personality (very different kinds of people will be drawn to tridelt and theta). Better to do what makes you happy in terms of whether or not you affiliate and not freak out about being in a low tier.

The funny thing with tiers is that nobody's going to look down on a Pi Phi for not being in A Phi, or a girl in Theta for not being in Kappa. Sororities within each tier are basically different personalities and then ranked in attractiveness. Of each tier, one isn't necessarily better than the other. A hardcore Pi Phi wouldn't want to be an A Phi - she wouldn't fit in and wouldn't enjoy it. Even if A Phi is technically ranked above them, girls end up where they belong.

Basically, don't worry about it. If you're in the top six (KKG/DDD/KAO/APhi/PiPhi/DG), you will have mixers with any top frat you want, and you'll never be ashamed of your letters or the fact that you aren't the top of your tier.

Even if you aren't in the top six, you still have mixers (nearly all sororities do) and with some of the top frats too (just maybe not all of them). Joining any sorority will give you the opportunity to make new friends in your chapter/other chapters/in fraternities, give you more social life opportunities, and just in general expose you more to campus.

I hope we go to a school where you're not ashamed of your letters even if you aren't in the "top six". Honestly all the sororities here have something to offer and if you start worrying about tiers then rush at a different school because you should really be picking based on the personality of the chapter and whether that fits with you. If you feel like you belong somewhere and join that sorority, no matter which one it is, then i doubt you'll ever be "ashamed" to wear your letters. Honestly what dumb wording

Gotta agree with the comment above me. While some of the original comment is fair, it's more than a little rude to insinuate that women in what you consider to be "bottom tier" chapters are ASHAMED to wear their letters. I have no idea where you would get that impression. Maybe this will come as a shock to you, but actually, most sorority women on this campus are very proud of their chapters, and it has nothing to do with tier.

Btw, ALL sororities have mixers regularly, and don't think that a sorority's lack of mixers with "top frats" is necessarily any sort of disappointment to them... LOL. And it goes both ways. Not every frat wants to mix with "top tier" sororities, either. Every chapter has a few other chapters they vibe best with.

as a member of a low tier sorority, I can basically confirm that you still have numerous mixers and social opportunities and no one really cares about other people's letters. NUs greek system is really non competitive and I have friends in top tier houses that don't look down on me at all. I wouldn't fit in in their house and they wouldn't fit in in mine. I absolutely think joining any sorority is a good idea and a great way to get involved
