There is no clout in Northwestern Greek life
by: how it isAlthough being in greek life improves your social experience on an individual level, there is no campus culture of respect for certain frats or sororities like at state schools. Any rankings you see are coming from someone affiliated trying to influence how their chapter is perceived. Everyone else either doesn’t care (90% of campus) or is anti-greek life (vocal minority). You’re basically deciding on who you want to be friends with when you rush, maybe slightly influenced by alumni network or housing. Popularity in a college the size of northwestern is a very different concept from some high schools. Some people are more outgoing, conventionally attractive, wealthy etc. so I suppose you can decide to see a sort of hierarchy, that’s your choice tho. People hang out w whoever they vibe with, greek life here is basically an extension of that. As someone who transferred from a state school I can assure you that the greek culture at NU is not very serious. Tho it is interesting to see certain chapters on here inflating their egos lol

Definitely, no hierarchy of students overall here but let's be real here, many NU students probably around ~75% are anti-social bookworms whose weekends consist of smoking weed in a dorm and ordering food or attending some dry NU student life event. Greek life is a space that attracts more or less socially adept kids who want to have a socially exciting and wild time. If you are a sociable person or are just looking to take some social initiative, I would def recommend rushing without a doubt.

I agree that you should rush for the social benefits, my point is chapters here don’t have the campus wide rep of top sororities at other schools
