A transparent message to incoming freshman

To incoming freshmen:
I am a Northwestern alum. I came to this school with high expectations, not only in terms of academics but in terms of social life. I wanted to do everything you see in the movies: Party, hook up, date hot girls, etc. What I didn’t know was that I would be literally irrelevant if I didn’t join greek life. Like I didn’t exist. No access to parties, normal (attractive) girls who aren’t nerds, cool dudes who ai can actually call my friends and who aren’t locked in their rooms being anti-social any time they’re not in class. Yes, it can be a little “extra”, rush might be a little overbearing and you may have to sacrifice some of your personal values if you wish to join as I’ve heard/seen some pretty decadent stories about what goes on in those houses. But if you wish to have some semblance of fun during your time at NU you should strongly consider joining a greek institution.

This is very true as a student. U can totally have a good social life, meet girls, etc. without rushing a house but it will be a drawback for sure. if u are really into the social scene I don’t see why u wouldn’t rush. Pledging has also become much more laid back in most houses over the years because of backlash from the university, which makes frats more accessible. Guys who wanna have a more fun/organized social life should rush.
