Stop listening to these losers

by:

Listen closely: everyone posting AGL to their stories saying there are alternatives to GL are LYING and don’t care. NU is a lonely and depressing place and will become even more so without Greek life. Other communities are exclusive and hard to find, but GL is open to everyone and is a structured way to find support and avoid depression. These losers want to tear us down not bc they care about poc (if they did they would be doing the actual work like we are... instead of screaming into their phones all day) they are just miserable lonely people who hate that people in GL think it is ok to have fun once in a while.

Agreed. AGLs want to attend elitist schools like NU. AGLs want to fly home to their parents’ elitist homes in Marin County, CA. AGLs want to “rush” Bain Consulting in the fall. Mckinsey too??? But do actual work for actual change? STFU. Go away. Go away. Go away!

Wow, I have no words. Greek like was invented to create a space for people of the same social class to meet and network (historically white ppl), and was built on exclusivity based on money, looks, race, etc. Don't believe me? You must have never seen a sorority PC class or heard anything about the rush process. And if you think NU is depressing if you're not in greek life, have you forgotten the thousands of students on this campus who make amazing friends without the help of joining one?
And not that it should matter, but I see and say this as someone who would be the perfect stereotypical sorority girl but recognizes that this system was created to benefit me and people just like me. That's not what college is about. Lastly, maybe consider for a second how you would feel if you couldn't afford greek life or were a POC at NU. I bet you wouldn't want to be, so think about that next time you say people opposed to greek life are losers. Have the basic common sense to look past the white saviors on instagram and listen to the POC who are speaking out against a system that hurts them.

If other people outside of greek life are fine making friends why are they worrying about what people are doing in Greek Life? Also there are houses that actually provide scholarships and work out financial issues for those who can't afford the full price, I even know of a house that provided free rent last year for students. Not only that, but these organizations actually are active in philanthropic events throughout the year and together raise thousands of dollars for various causes while probably half of AGL think their justice is done by twiddling their thumbs and posting exaggerated and anonymous stories rather than actually finding solutions to problems other than canceling the whole system.

Maybe consider reaching out to FSL or fraternity presidents and suggesting concrete solutions that would help improve their organizations for all instead of just trying to cancel everything. You'd be surprised how open they are to discussions, not everyone in GL are just rich a-holes.

Low income POC in a Greek Life here. Agreed with the above post. There's so much positive change being made to Greek Life. No system starts out perfect. Also AGL doesn't speak for all POC or low-income individuals so stop lumping us into one group. It's my choice to be in Greek Life and I'm not letting anyone take the opportunity from me.
