confused at the no. of girls dropping out of rush

Sorority membership has never been some signup sheet. You have to be invited. Anyone who doesn't like the houses that liked them enough to invite them back, or doesn't want to give the house a chance that tried to choose them for membership, well that's your voice. The sororities do the choosing. No one is owed membership in any of them.

No. People aren’t owed a membership but it definitely isn’t the best system when people who don’t want one sorority take up a spot just to drop when there are other people who would love a spot. A couple 5 min conversations don’t mean an active knows a PNM or knows if they are a perfect fit. This is college girls should be self aware enough to know what sororities they would be happy in. Boys get to choose in frat rush it really shouldn’t be so different.

“Low tier” chapters wouldn’t get pledge classes, then you’re only left with “mid tier” and “top tier” chapters. I’m sure there are some guys who care about ranks, but for most of them, rush is about finding a perfect match. Sometimes, some of the PNMs are really caught up on the tier system. Just imagine if the only houses available to rush were Theta, Kappa, or tridelt. That’s why sorority rush is this way. If it was like fraternity rush, we wouldn’t have this many chapters because they would close down due to lack of members. At least this way, everyone has an equal chance of finding a home and can grow to love it eventually.

It’s not just our school, but many universities in general. Rush is a huge thing in the south, but all of their sororities are very good including the “low tier” ones. They are like that because the sorority rush system gives them a fair chance of getting great girls in all houses. I’m not saying it’s perfect, but that’s why the system exists.

It would be nice to see them extend the rush period. Make it less congested for sororities and have it span out over at least two weeks. The conversations should be in a relaxed environment and sororities and PNMs can get a clearer picture of each other.
