Top Tier to lower top such as Pike,ZBT, Sig Chi, Phi Psi usually do not take walk ins. You would have to at least know a few brothers from fall quarter. Not unless they feel like you are a really good fit they'll take you. Even at some upper mids to mid mids i.e Beta ,Phi Delt, Aepi you would have to at least know some brothers as well. General consensus meeting brothers and getting invited to events during fall quarter is usual the way to go. But never say never you can always try they will usually tell you on the first day what your outlook is.

I was just generalizing the mid tiers never said they were upper mid they are mid mid on a good day some say lower mid but obvi never in front of Beta or Phi Delt.
