don't make this mistake

by:

Freshman and sophomore girls rushing, if you are still on this site, and won't get off of it even when prompted, then please listen to this advice: don't drop out of rush because of tiers. That's really not smart and will cause you to potentially miss out on great sisterhoods. There's a difference between not wanting to be apart of a house because you truly believe you and the sisters wouldn't mesh well, and dropping because of vanity, thinking you are too good to be apart of certain houses. This is not the case. Despite what is said on here, the large majority of houses offer very similar experiences in the social aspect. And even so, the social aspect will only matter to you until the end of your sophomore year most likely. I know many girls who dropped out of recruitment thinking they were too good for the houses they had left who ended up COBing those houses later. Formal recruitment is competitive in a sense but not because its "top 6 or die" like has been said here a few times. Its because we overvalue the ranking system when in actuallty it has very little effect on your greek experience. Please remember this next week.

Lots of houses have COB. KD, Chi O, GPhi, APhi, DG, Zeta, Alpha Chi, and DZ have all done COB in the past year, and lots of the girls who go through informal recruitment are girls who dropped out of formal recruitment. I would suggest that no matter if you got cut from houses you really love, that you stick it out until the end of pref night and then decide if you want to sign a pref card or withdraw. The houses that you thought you wouldn't like might surprise you. If you sign a pref card, and ultimately do not accept your bid, you can't accept another bid until next winter (meaning that you're ineligible for COBing). If you don't sign a pref card and withdraw but are still interested in informal recruitment (COB) then I highly suggest that you let your friends who did accept bids know that you're interested in informal recruitment and reach out to PHA to fill out a form letting COB eligible chapters know that you might be interested.

Side note: if you do sign a pref card and don't get the house that you want on bid night and are thinking about dropping, you might as well stick around for a week or two to see whether or not you do like the house since you're ineligible to accept a different bid until next winter anyway
