rushing fraternities as a sophomore transfer
by: TransferdudeAfter deciding to transfer to NU and doing a bit of research, I have decided that I would like to join a fraternity as soon as possible. How does fraternity rush work for transfer students who were not greek prior to coming to NU? Will being a sophomore hurt my odds of getting a bid, especially at higher ranked houses? Will it be hard to get to know people or get into parties as a sophomore with zero preexisting connections? How does rush even work at NU?

First of all, don't worry about a house's ranking. Focus on finding a house where you fit in and could see yourself enjoying yourself for the next 3 years. As for how to rush? Meet people as early as possible, both freshmen and others. Go out and do things on campus, get involved. Greek life pretty heavily dominates a lot of student groups. Also go out early welcome week before houses start requiring texts to get in so you can meet guys. Finally, and most importantly, go to Sunday Night dinners, and make a point of going to several different houses so you can try to find the one that fits you best. Hope this helps :)
