yay for being local!

as someone who rushed locals before going international i can definitely say that there are perks to both type of organizations and for me it just happened to be that an international was a right fit. I care a lot about my future (networking) and having a sisterhood - those are the two biggest things and international has given me. based on what my local friends have told me the sisterhood is different in locals (not better or worse) and not the type for me since it does normally involve some hazing during pledging which i never had to go through. there are perks to both and if you're a potential rush reading this please check out BOTH types... go to a nu sig event and aphi event for example - experience both and then make your decision after!

as someone who made the mistake of going local, I don't recommend it. I love my sisters dearly but the organizations are so unorganized, which has caused me to go inactive because I couldn't stand it anymore. However, I do wish that uOttawa had a wider variety of international organizations, because maybe I would've been more inclined to join one.
But at the end of day, go international or don't go greek at all.

As someone who wished that they had've gone international i would definitely suggest to rushees at the minimum trying international and local. I also find that my experience in a local was disorganized and had an exceptional amount of drama. Internationals can help you get places and provides a lasting network while a local is only providing a network while in university. Although I did enjoy greek life i truly wish that uottawa had more variety of internationals to choose from as i had no desire to rush either tridelta or alpha phi although both are respectable organizations that each have strengths. Locals can be initially fun but i ended up strongly regretting my choice of organization and highly suggest to anyone rushing to rush many different organizations.

to be completely honest, joining local was a poorly thought-out decision on my part. It is unorganized, heavily criticized, overlooked, full of drama, and just not taken seriously. There are no long term (or short term for that matter) benefits, and it is so stressful. Don't get me wrong, I love my sisters and the friendships I've made, but I would not recommend joining local to anyone.

I spent 2 years in a local (respectfully not naming it, but I'm sure you could guess) and finally dropped after being hazed and having to watch others be hazed/feeling pressured to haze
others. A lot of locals, from my experience, are built on an internal tier system where you're expected to respect and listen to higher roles even when they're wrong or being cruel. The sisterhood was surface level in my experience and based on partying and immature things. I'm better off having left. I gained very little post-grad skills and met few people who were actually at university for their education....
