Was APHI local before going international??? I'm new & just wondering because I see so much of APHI bashing local organizations on here, so I'm just curious and don't know the story/process

They were "local" as they needed to be in order to become international, they were "local" for their first semester while they filed the paperwork and colonized the following semester lmao every colony is local before they initiate, nice try tho

Ya they were actually lmao as was DPhiE, I wouldn't call dphie or aphi ever being local since they were formed specifically to go NPC but you can't go straight from girls off the street who don't know each other to wearing NPC letters... it takes a year (or more for some) to get established in order to apply for NPC, both of those two did it as fast as possible, aphi receiving numerous NPC offers as soon as they applied the first time. The fact that this needs to be explained shows you're a local aka basically a GDI...

it's normally a minimum of around 5 years to actually become an international from a local depending on the campus

APhi's colony was nuts, kzp's gamma class were the oldest founders, that's three classes (1.5 years) for the geeds. Don't know it that avg is accurate or not but if it is aphi crushed it!t!

Actually Kappa Zeta Psi was not created to become international because their founding mothers were tridelts and decided to leave to make their own sorority. The other girls in KZP wanted to become international so they said bye to their founding mothers as they couldn't be in aphi since they were once in tridelts

Pretty sure the entire reason they left was so that girls who wanted to go NPC had a choice other than tridelt (no offence tridelt)

if they had a name... Kappa Zeta Psi... they were obviously local. Their goal as a local was always to colonize another international - sucks for their founders tho, they never got to be initiated as APhis :(

They were founded with the intention of going international, half of the tridelts weren't initiated yet and did go aphi, they started process immediately. You need a name when you start, they were "kappa" with the hopes of going KKG but they weren't open for expansion.... Just like DPhie wanted to go KD. Everyone who was around knew this. Neither of those sororities were ever locals, the official terms for the process are "interest group" > "colony" > "collegiate chapter." Kzp was an interest group.

@poor locals, your point actually really accurate, but both those organizations were still local organizations prior to going international. The requirements for interest groups are a little bit more complicated, and as far as I know, it's just easier and makes your group more appealing to international organizations by showing that you are already able to function as a Greek organization. An interest group situation would be closer to Phi Delt's recent colonization, where there was no preexisting organization to transition over, but even that isn't quite right either.

Many international chapters in Ottawa started out similarly as local organizations intending to go international.

They named themselves after them... it's ok KD doesn't even Canadian chapters so it's not like they turned them down

Are you a GDI? KDB kept their options open - their main priority was going international. They initially wanted Theta but when DPhiE presented at Carleton they realized they were perfect for each other. They weren't focusing on KD at all.
