by: VDBLWhat can SigEp do to move up from middle tier to middle-top tier?

SigEp revolutionized the fraternity movement in 1991 by unveiling the Balanced Man Program (BMP), a concept of single-tiered membership and continuous development that begins the day a brother joins. SigEp believes the stereotypical fraternity experience does not fulfill the needs of today’s college male. The BMP offers an experience focused on scholarship, leadership, professional development and life skills. Members learn to live their best lives through unique, rewarding programming tailored to fit their needs and prepare them for the journey of life ahead.

Sig Ep's Balanced Man program is a lie. The UT chapter is powerful enough that as long as it doesn't really screw up with hazing nationals won't come after them. The program exists so that if and when a major chapter screws up and the media tries to judge the whole fraternity by the one chapter, because frankly the press has no idea how fraternities work and how different one chapter may be from another, Sig Ep nationals can point a finger at all the lower tier chapters that use the program and say "Hey! We don't haze, this was clearly one renegade group of awful people." Since most schools aren't UT and treat Greek Life like a venue for partying and not real connections, power, or anything that would put a high enough price on membership for hazing to become a real issue, most of the chapters are probably going to follow that program, but the powerful SEC chapters can keep doing what they do with near impunity. It's quite clever actually, if SAE started doing this years ago I'm sure they wouldn't have the widespread reputation they have today.

Our ritual is performed on the third floor of the chapter house. The door to this room has a coded entry pad, and is not accessible to the public. No one outside of the SigEp family is allowed in this room. We perform all ritual here by candlelight with the proper equipment as described in the Ritual and Guide of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is committed to being a different kind of fraternity – one that recognizes the importance of the out-of-classroom experience and is committed to making that experience the safest and most empowering part of a college male’s life,” said SigEp CEO Brian Warren. “Though it’s always painful to close a chapter, these students’ actions clearly illustrated a determination to perpetuate an experience based on risky and unconstructive behavior. In these cases, we have no choice but to close the chapter and return to campus at a later date.”

They need to do what any chapter needs to do:
1. Make a plan for how to ramp up each aspect of the chapter: membership, involvement (both Greek and Campus), academics, sports, philanthropy, and, oh yeah, parties. Then work it.
2. Don't 'settle' for the guys who walk in the door at rush. do the hard work of getting to know a person for a few weeks or even months before giving a bid.
3. Hold members accountable for their actions. A man who isn't keeping his grades up, who isn't paying his bills, who is giving you a bad reputation with sororities, that guy is not helping the chapter. He needs to get right or get out. And the chapter is not helping him by excusing or covering his bad actions.

Appears that the chapter doesn't care that they are on nationals' "watch list."
