which sorority will colonize next?
by: Far away girlI got to an sec school and I was wondering if any sororities will be colonizing at it next. I'm from Austin and my sorority isn't in Texas. I'm a phi mu at UGA, do you think there is a chance it will colonize here soon!? I miss Texas and should have gone to UT when I had the chance.

No NPC group will colonize. Real Estate is very expensive, total and quota are smaller here than in most SEC schools and UT is more liberal and less Greek oriented as a University. UT is a lot like UCLA or Michigan, a big prestigious research university. I don't see a new colony in the next decade.

Sororities at UT tend to be really expensive, elite organizations, not like in a lot of SEC schools where almost everyone is Greek. There's lots of competition and unfriendly rivalry between houses so any NPC sorority, like rumor spreading, bad mouthing during rush, obsession with status, that any colony would get torn apart almost instantly. Ironically the liberal nature of UT's campus climate causes Greek organizations to be much more conservative than in a lot of other schools, so a house with no history or tradition will not survive here.

Greek life accounts for 14% of 40,000+ students. So for those who rush unsuccessfully or decide being Greek isn't for them, it's not the end of the world because Greek life doesn't rule the social scene and is easy to avoid if you're not part of it.
Plus, this is Austin -- if you can't find something to do or get involved in, that's on you and being Greek won't suddenly turn you into a social butterfly.

The main thing is real estate -- UT Greek life is strong, but the administration is lukewarm at best toward Greeks and doesn't pitch in to help with housing.
