out of state
by: curioushow hard is it to get a bid from a top sorority if you're from out of state/the north? i'm from the d.c. area and even though i feel at home in the south etc. i want to know what to expect. also, how important is it to have recommendation letters? and is it important to be super religious?

DC Area is fine. Just don't expect Big 6 because even in-state Texas girls with no connections can't get in. Other than that, you're fine. Get rec letters. But if you were looking for a "southern" sorority experience, we're not really as southern as Alabama, Ole Miss, or other SEC schools. No one really care about being super religious at all (again, that's more of an SEC thing). If you want good academics but still a "southern" experience then maybe Vanderbilt may be more your thing.

you are really setting yourself up for failure if you expect to get into one of the top sororities in your position. keep an open mind and the mid tier may be possible as long as you have letters of support and recommendations and are an attractive, well dressed girl with a good outgoing personality.

And I should add...DC, Manhattan and Fairfield CT have the highest per capita concentrations of wealth and power in the whole country. With this going for you, you may catch the attention of a few places, which may (MAY) give you the chance to market your personality and interests to them for some time. Even so, richer-than-god girls who fit the cookie cutter profile from these areas have gone through bidless. It's really all about connections or legacy here. The importance being so great, some girls have recs written for them by influential alumnae without them knowing. Welcome to Texas.

Sign up to live in Red House or Red Annex and your problems as an out of stater will pretty much be solved, but do it now because feral society moms like kill eachother for spots and whatnot. You're more likely to get Zeta or TriDelt if you're cute and fun and have a lot going for you, but aren't "connected." ChiO flat out doesn't look at non-Texan girls.
