should i contact sororities if i'm interested in c

Should I contact sororities if I'm interested in COB in order to get my name out or is that frowned upon? Will they look down upon me if i ask or is it best to show initiative? I know certain sororities don't do COB's but would it hurt to ask? --I would like an opinion from someone currently in a sorority if possible
