theta and transfers
by: Very unhappy NMDoes Theta accept transfers for affiliation? I am not going to ask family or friends that are actives/alumnae in PKT at UT because apparently they give awful advice, so I'm coming to ask here. Most of yall probably already know my story, and I talked to an amazing Texas Theta last night. Given my situation at UA, I think I'm going to stay until initiation and then transfer back to UT for the Spring. Does it matter that Theta is bottom tier at UA? They're all socially awkward and weird so I don't fit in there at all. I know I would fit in with the Thetas here. Please help!

Well, from what I've heard, yes, the chapter votes on whether to accept a transfer for affiliation. But it's not my fault that I got stuck in a bottom tier chapter at UA. Read my story on UA's page . I was following family and friends advice to rank PKT so that when I moved back to Texas (was going to be after graduation but who knows now) I would be a shoo in for things like JL and other elite organizations. It's all about connections in Texas.

1. If you're not a troll, P, K, and T are all in different tiers at Bama. The fact that you ended up in the lowest ranked one (and your admitted 3rd choice) shows you're not the hot sh$t you think you are. I'm sure there are tons of better Texas girls who got bids to Pi Phi and Kappa at Bama this year. You weren't good enough.
2. My older bio sister was a ZTA at A&M and she easily got into JLD. Some of her other JLD friends weren't even in a sorority at all (gasp!!) It's not the 1980's anymore. You can easily get into JLD or JLH without being PKT. Same thing with the Dallas social clubs like Slipper and Cotillion. My sister is in Slipper. Lots of sorority girls in those, but PKT isn't a prerequisite.

JL isn't really even a big thing anymore. It has lost its luster. Pretty much a working girls networking event, rather than a social deal.

I think you should take a deep breath and realize you are young and impulsive and things seem desperate right now but honestly... They aren't. You are being unfair to the group that chose you and you are forgetting that you will have the chance to build a sorority family of your own through future rush groups. Also, awkward and weird are underrated- maybe they pick up on your awkwardness and weirdness too. Transferring would be ridiculous. Commit to the sisterhood completely for a year and see what develops.

Also, not to be rude but pledging a sorority because it might help you get into junior league in austin later is ridiculous. You need to get some life experience- go to South America, protest some injustice, get really stoned and write bad poetry then post it on twitter. Get really into your studies and go to Harvard Law. Junior League is not an ambition, and neither is returning to the same place you know already to have all the same beliefs and assumptions you had as a teenager. Seriously - go find a new sorority sister of yours who is especially different from you and buy her a coffee. Find out her story.

Off topic, but I like you! Your post always worth reading. I'm guessing you are same 'oldwise' on UA GR as well. But thank you for trying to find the positive in all of this.

i think the original post on the bama site was real, and the girl is real. however, some of the supposed OP's replies and this thread have to be trolls. no one is that dumb.
but the original girl is a horrendous person.

bama theta here!! very classy moving on to the ut greekrank.. we're pretty sure we know who you are and you're going to get dropped. good luck ever getting into a sorority after this. and to the ut greek system- stay aware of transfers coming from alabama looking to get into a sorority/ are in theta (i'm sure there won't be a lot) and make sure you drop her.

Well, despite people trying to deliberately out me by posting supposed initials or referring to where I'm supposedly from, nobody from Theta has approached me and said anything about being dropped. There are many other girls from Texas in our PC so it's not obvious. And even if yall did find out who I am, why would you try to have me dropped for asking for HELP?! I had to explain the situation fully and accurately if I wanted any legitimate responses. Sorry if yall, Pi Phi, or Kappa got offended about it, but I was just telling the truth about what happened!!
