the problem with sdt

by:

The problem with SDT participating in formal recruitment is that while they are an NPC sorority at Texas there is a very specific image when one thinks sorority life. It involves a house, an active social life, and is it's own culture within UT.

The fact is SDT does not offer those things. And there is nothing wrong with that! It's a great group of girls who love the Greek experience they chose with SDT.

But they are not what the majority of girls signing up for formal recruitment are looking for. Nationals knows about it, panhellenic knows it, active, alumni and PNMS all know it. Even SDT knows it which is why it's frustrating they keep trying to force SDT to fit the "formal recruitment mold" that everyone knows they will never fit in.

It's a waste of time for everyone.

That doesn't even make sense. If their Nationals knew it didn't work they wouldn't make them participate. Panhell can't override a decision from nationals regarding this.

Is a bad example because living in the house is central to the sorority culture there -- WAY more so than at UT or any SEC schools. The three unhoused chapters are considered inferior/irrelevant/what have you.

SDT at Bama is very similar to the chapter here -- they lost their original house about a decade ago but got a small university-owned house a couple of years back. They do informal recruitment only with the full blessing of their national, and they have the respect of the rest of Panhellenic because they do their own thing and they don't make any pretense of trying to compete with the other 16 chapters. They have their niche -- providing a Greek experience for girls who don't have the looks, social skills, or connections to get a bid to the other chapters on campus -- and they do well with it.
