can someone explain the importance of "camp"?
by: oosI stopped going to summer camp when I was like 13. Why is "camp" so important to Texas/south in general? I would think it would be looked upon better if one traveled and interned in the summer rather than do watersports and arts and crafts at sleepaway camp but to each their own I guess.

My mother signed me up a birth to attend Waldemar, I went for 8 years and loved every minute of it! It is a magical place and I have every intention of sending my daughters (if I have any) there. However, it certainly does not make me better than anyone else maybe luckier though, lol). I have also been fortunate enough to travel extensively overseas and throughout the US. The experience of camp and all my travels has very much contributed to my self growth, education, cultural awareness and of course net-working!

The more I read on the UT GR board the more I thank God I'm not from TX. Y'all are seriously crazy. The importance placed on camp, sorority and JL couldn't be any shallower or narcissistic. Must be exhausting constantly trying to climb that social ladder.
Hilarious all the moms that get on here to defend it too.

No one said that -- just that camp offers networking as a matter of course, which helps during Rush. Camp girls aren't "better" than anyone else; they just often have more friends from across the state. And if you believe some on here, the only "better" girls are those that rack up $5,000 weekly hotel bills in Europe every summer. Yeah, I bet she's a kick to be around during Work Week.
