Hazing is the use of humiliating tactics against someone who wants to join or initiate into a group. Pi Phi's dance party is HAZING of PNMs.
Panhel should put their foot down. If fines won't make Pi Phi stop doing this to PNMS, then Panhel should enforce other penalties against Pi Phi. Barring them from recruitment or from social events for a year would do it.

I think it is more a reflection of their social graces and upbringing. If they can't visit with PNM's (regardless of their level of interest in the PNM) during these short parties, I can't imagine how handicap they will be post-graduation when they enter the real world and have professional roles, Junior League, PTA, etc. where they are forced to interact with people from a variety of different backgrounds.

This is not a lie. Pi Phi's may be rich girls from "good families," but the dance party demonstrates that they are super-awkward misfits without an ounce of social skills.

have the goal of making sure that every PNM that enters their house is treated graciously. Obviously Pi Phi can't take and doesn't want every PNM, but if Pi Phi sisters were raised right, they'd be welcoming to everyone while they are in their home, yes, even to the misfits that they'll cut later that night. The goal should be that girls who are released can say "I didn't get a bid from Pi Phi, but they were super nice girls and I had a great time at their house."

Get why everyone gets so worked up? Who cares? If you think it is so awful and hurts them so much, you should encourage it since it hurts them recruitment if your logic is correct. Quit worrying about it. This string just makes you sound jealous and silly. Seriously? Socially awkward? Come on! I will buy not as attractive as some, rich, and some are snobby, but they are pretty much all socially very poised....when they want to be. And, frankly, they do the dance party because they CAN. I was personally glad to not have to talk to girl I was set up with....not my favorite....

I'm not a Pi Phi, but I agree these posts are ridic. Sure, it's awkward that they seem to enjoy alienating people but it's not actually going to "hurt" them either. That's dumb. To them, it doesn't matter that 50% of the girls attending Open House strongly dislike them if the 3% they do want are the ones that want them back, so it all works out. Theoretically.

No, no... ponchos are for the GLITTER party. It's the only way to keep that crap out of your hair and keep them from marking their terroitory. They might as well pee on the PNMs's legs.

Am I the only one who thinks it will be fun to just dance for one round? I'm really not concerned about whether Pi Phi likes me or not! Thi will not affect how i feel about rush or all the other houses. It sounds like a fun break in the day and I am all for random dancing. If they are awkward it will just make me laugh anyway.

I agree. If you're wearing that much makeup and chiffon that you can't just jump around and have fun for 10 minutes, it says a lot about you. If you vehemently hate the dance, Pi Phi probably isn't the place for you.
They're just having fun!!!! The thing I like about Pi Phi is, no one knows if they like you or not. I thought they didn't care until I got invited back all the way through pref. I was kind of mad they didn't talk to us much the first or second rounds though, but having been through their process, it keeps the suspense without raising any hopes or treating PNMs poorly or unfairly.
