It's called the top 10% law. UT does have a waiver that the top 10% can't exceed 75% of the entering class. This is where the top 8% or 9% or what ever percentage is calculated as filling that 75%. Highland Park might be filled with money, but the girls from Austin who's parents are in the Tech sector and the girls from Houston that come from Oil, can go bank to bank with the HP girls. The biggest difference? The non-HP girls actually have realistic views on the world and realize that Dad's money only gets you so far. This allows them to make informed decisions about all houses without having to be so dim brained as to choose based on lip service.

AMEN AMEN! Truer words were never spoken....Dallas(HP) kids are considered a joke in the Austin area! They have been made fun of for ages due to their ridiculous shallowness. Somehow they haven't got the memo that Austin has EXTREME wealth...they are just cool about it.

Right? The Dallas folks think that their 100's spend so differently than the ones here in Austin. Go to Dallas and everyone wants to talk about money. Come to Austin and everyone wants to talk about the community and each other (in a good way) Of course the Dallas babes walk in letting you know they have everything they want, and if they don't, they want to know how to but it. You can find shallowness in Austin (Westlake...) but you can also find huge money that is NEVER discussed (Lakeway). The Big 6 is like that world's best imaginary friend. So good in theory, but when it comes down to it, more emptiness than substance. You can find some strong sisterhoods in the Big 6, but some are very, very shallow, hinged on the idea that money buys happiness. Most intelligent people know that is not true.

That 70?s article is over 40 years old. Plus, it basically makes fun of any sorority it mentions, except for anything really too bad about Kappa or Pi Phi. (The writer was a Kappa). Things like:
PAGE 104-How the TriDelts? singing voice during rush sent shivers down her spine, lol.
PAGE 110- Zetas have to try harder. Does a Zeta shun heavy makeup, etc. does she look like a Pi Phi? She does not. Bless her heart for trying?she never will.

PAGE 110- a) In the status game, Chi Omega?s parking lot will show you they are not among the top contenders. b) The ADPi?s (of all people) are 2nd behind PiPhi for GPA

THROUGHOUT?Plus the article constantly insinuates Phi Delt is the best fraternity that girls want to date, which in this day and age, is a joke. Phi Who? Alot has changed.

Pi Phi & Kappa came out smelling like roses in that article. (even if it was supposed to be "humorous") The others were more middle-class sounding. Stupid article.

I went and read it and I disagree. It is still accurate AND the author was a Kappa but I think she totally made fun of the whole system. In fact, Kappas maybe got it the worst.

Me thinks the tragic mid and bottom tier sorority members dost protest too much. You only look desperate when you come here to try to convince everyone you are so much better than the Big Six.
