I'm a Pi Phi in the Northeast and was considering transferring to UT next year but looking at these comments has really discouraged me. Pi Phi is considered a "top house" at my school, but it's because we're fun and cute and down to earth and we're also willing to share our "top" ranking with tons of other chapters. I have friends all over the various sororities and tiers of our 19 Panhel sororities on campus and it makes me very sad to see people battling for who's best and who has the "top spot" here at UT. I love my Pi Phis and the national rep we have but I'm not sure how I'd feel about being a part of their chapter at a school with so much animosity from and towards those girls.

The benefits of getting involved in a sorority can be particularly significant at a big school since it's an easier way to make friends within a smaller community. When it comes time to select a major or if you have questions about college life, you have a built-in resource of older girls you can go to for advice or mentoring. Sororities are known to have a thriving social scene and many are focused on philanthropic events, so it's a great opportunity to meet others with like-minded interests, not to mention your social calendar will always be full!
