need help

by: Greek

I'm from Alabama and really want to go to UT Austin. However, I know at the University of Alabama it is very hard to get into the better fraternities if you are from out of state. Can someone tell me if its much harder there? I'm really interested in Phi Gam and kappa sig but you never know until you meet your rush class. Thanks.

And what about SAE?

SAE is going down hill. Pledging more guys that go to community college, in trouble w/ nationals, not as respected as Kappa Sig and FIJI. Wouldn't waste your time for SAE

So would y'all say that Sig Ep or Kappa Sig is better? Should I not even try for Phi Gam since i'm out of state?

Are you sure that you can even afford the top houses?

Yeah that's not a problem at all.

Every house from FIJI to PIKE is a great experience to be part of. Even Phi Psi/Phi Delt/Pi Kapp are an enjoyable experience if you fit into their group.

Ridiculous comments from trolls, "Don't even waste your time with SAE". Sure, don't go SAE if you don't like that vibe, but there's still a bunch of great guys in there. Same with every top and middle tier fraternity.

Yeah and I understand that. It's just when I go down to Tuscaloosa all my friends are in the old row top tier fraternities and from my experience I get along with the top tiers and associate better with them way better then the lower ones. There is definitely a difference there.

But I get what you're saying. You don't know what you want to join until you meet your rush/pledge class and see who you fit in with best. Just trying to get a feel for what Upper tier fraternities are even a option for out of staters.

If you're a product of Alabama schools, I doubt you could even get admitted to UT much less pledge a top tier fraternity here.

And he'll be looking for you

Doesn't really matter since they've got what he desperately wants. The little Bama crybaby will be well known for his sheet here way before top tier rush begins. Maybe TKE will want him.

Admitting you have no connections and then planning to go fiji or kappa sig is defintiely a head scratcher.

Do you have any friends in these chapters at Alabama? If so, have them reach out to the rush captains on your behalf and make the intro. Also what about Alabama alums from these fraternities writing letters or making a call on your behalf. I was in one of these houses and we had people calling/writing all the time.

Or do you have any family friends who went to UT (or friends of friends that went to UT) and were greek of any sort? They should be able to network you with the houses that you are interested in.

You should also go to Round Up this spring and meet as many people as possible.

I'm friends with a lot of Phi Gams at Alabama and they are old row and definitely in the top 3 at bama so I'm sure it will help. Great advice! Thanks

Glad to know it's not impossible. I don't know any of them though and i've emailed the fiji rush chairman at UT and haven't got a response yet. Guy above said to try to go to round up. When is that?

There aren't any Alabama or Georgia guys in Fiji.

Yes, please come to Round Up and make sure to stop at all the houses and tell them who you are before coming in and enjoying their parties. Everyone is fighting to have the high school kids at their parties so get there early! You won't even need a wristband.

you are wrong. there are several alabama and georgia guys in Fiji. Get your act together.
if you don't know any of them then you are probably not in luck. figure out who they are, and get them to back you and you have a chance. Otherwise - no chance.
