rush

I am hoping to attend UT next fall. When does rush start for guys? I have heard that I need to go to round up and parties this summer. I know some guys in fraternities, but probably not well enough to just call them. I know some girls in PKT pretty well though....will they be able to get me into parties and introduce me around or should I try to contact guys I know?
