How to Sororities decide on new members?

by: curious

I understand sororities have their lists of incoming girls who are already on the radar because of high school connections or whatever. Curious how sororities actually make their decisions? Maybe this is confidential and can't be shared. Is it the rush committee who mostly decides with input from other girls or do all the girls vote after the rounds to narrow down? If you're not on someone's list before rush starts but meet girls that week and leave a positive impression, will they try to get you in? Just wondering how it all goes down.

It is truly different for every house. some sororities involve the whole chapter in making cuts and keeping girls. in other houses, chapter advisors and/or rush team have more control, and there is less transparency throughout the house. neither way of doing things is better than the other, as every sorority operates differently and have their reasons for doing so. with the exception of PKT, you absolutely do not need to be on any list prior to recruitment (other than signing up for recruitment obviously)

In my house the actives who meet a pnm in their group give their impressions to the chapter, and each member then gives a numerical value. We don't vote to cut or keep, just give a value. We don't know exactly where the cutoff line is, that is for the recruitment team, and they will bump up any pnm if necessary if they know we need to keep them, or drop them down if they feel they need to be cut for some reason, but there is always a definite reason for them to have to do this.
