Didn't even know they exist so that pretty much sums it up

Full of ROTC guys and try hards. Kinda like sigma chi w/o a house

way weirder than Sigma Chi, they are more geedy than they are tryhard. DKE is a very unfratty chapter, and they have like 20 members and no house.

wouldn't ever join a house like theta chi or delta chi here at UT because of how bad they are in practically every aspect of a fraternity.

DKE's worse than both those by a lot to compare.

Throw Acacia, Lambda Chi, Sigma Pi, TKE, and Delta Sig in there too. Don't waste your money.

There are other new houses just like DKE that suck too, but I have no idea what they are.

Lambda chi is somewhat on the rise, don't initially count them out, it will be interesting how they end up in a few semesters.
But to be true, DKE is lower than acacia (who will always be low), TKE, and then small chapters.

is fundamentally built to the point where they'll recruit different guys and to be honest, 70% of those guys are tools that other chapters don't want. They don't weed out those guys you don't want because they don't have a pledgeship.

Sigma Chi may be bad, but Lambda Chi is breeding a whole new kind of try hard that previously didn't exist at UT.

rushes by scaring kids. They talk about how hard other fraternities' pledgeships are, and they basically pull big classes of kids who they weed out this way.

Don't believe anything on here about any fraternity or sorority. Rush the fraternities and check them out. Here is DKE's webpage and their Recruitment signup.

said about DKE here is pretty accurate whether you agree or disagree with it because you're in DKE.

Honestly, it doesn't matter what's said here. You'll end up getting a few kids who had no idea what the greek system here is and are kind of awkward and fall for the whole thing.

DKE will survive and be alright in 10 years, but until then they are just one of the litany of no name chapters and colonies.

tell you're a freshman if you think national fraternity networks really mean something. Generally at most, it's a , "hey, cool we have that in common" kind of thing. Your university network is probably more powerful.

If you join a fraternity for networking, then you should join a chapter with a strong history obviously. Local networks always have the strongest bonds.

This is spot on. You may get a few connections from your fraternity nationally, but not nearly as strong as those you make from your own chapter. Joining a chapter that is awful locally but strong nationally won't benefit you nearly as much as joining a chapter that is strong both locally and nationally. You get internships through alumni or parents' weekends, and if your chapter sucks, you're not gonna get anything. Sorry if the truth hurts.

This is spot on. You make connections at alumni and parents' weekends. If you think that a strong national base will help you when you have a God awful local one, then you have absolutely no idea how networking works. If you're in a terrible chapter, chances are you kinda suck anyways so those national connections will be few and far between.

"You probably suck". half agreed, but you lost me there. There's guys in top chapters that suck, and there are guys in lower tier chapters who are cool. Your chapter doesn't define whether you personally suck or not. It's not like everyone at UT went to the handful of feeder schools.

have only been off campus what like 3 years? so I would assume they have a pretty strong local alumni network? Anyone know if they have a house?

they had like 16 guys in their chapter when it closed down, it's safe to say they weren't doing well in recent history.

They used to have a house on 24th I think, but once their chapter shut down it was condemned. A bunch of hobos moved in and the city cleared them out after a few months. I assume they sold the land or it was repossessed by the bank because there is construction on the lot where it used to be.

it had a bunch of asbestos in it too, and they sold it to some developers to make the twentieth new apart complex in the last two years.

sold it to the property developers for a little over a mil, so you'd assume they'd have some money to buy a new house, but you pretty much need much more than a mil to buy a decent house these days considering when the rare land opens up, property developers will outbid any fraternity.
