Sorority rush question
by: rusheeIf a PNM has older friends in sororities, is it okay to hang with them over the summer or attend events if asked? What are the rules? And if you haven't made many connections by then, are you out of luck come rush time?

You can't go to any sorority events. That's a rush infraction for their sorority and members should know better, but sometimes the members that have only been there for one year and never rushed as actives don't realize that, but it's trouble just the same. You would not want your name associated in any rumors of already preferring one house over the other because that will get you cut from other houses when they think you have your sights set.
You can hang out with your friends outside of anything related to sorority events but don't assume anything about where you think you want to go, who wants you, or where you think you will get a bid. Don't tell other pnm's who you know in sororities or where you have connections. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AND BE GRACIOUS AND HUMBLE WITH EVERYONE YOU MEET INCLUDING OTHER PNM'S.
And connections, real connections, come organically over time, not through purposely trying to meet or impress people the summer before rush. Those aren't the 'connections' that people talk about.

Attending sorority events during the summer is not permitted by the Panhellenic council because it is considered dirty rushing, if the event gets reported to the council the sorority will get fined, but at this point its normal, some sororities are notorious for getting fined for dirty rushing, if you’re interested in the sorority and are invited to their events you should attend, and just because a sorority is dirty rushing you that doesnt mean you’ll for sure get a bid from them just keep an open mind because it happens alot where girls get dropped by a sorority that reached out to them
