Events for Syllabus Week?
by: Regina SmithWhat events are you guys going to these next few weeks?
#2 by: model the way
SigEp knows that the best way to create effective and valuable events is to have activities and themes where the potential new brothers, current members and guests have significant “buy in.” To accomplish this, we hold brainstorming sessions with the chapter and invite sorority women and leaders from other non-Greek Letter student organizations to discuss and plan our recruitment activities. We therefore have budgeted for the following for syllabus week:
- a Sound Body “combine” - brothers compete in events including weightlifting, 40 yard dashes, agility tests, and points awarded for each, with a awards of fraternity-licensed exclusive sportswear for the top 3 winners
- visit to local Hill Country farm to pick seasonal fruit
- sunset bird watching at Hornsby Bend
- a semi-formal etiquette dinner with prizes
#4 by: Find your people
Wherever you joined my best advice is to find your people this week this month this semester. In chapters that have something like like 300 members you can find them. But you need to look. Find the artsy the dancers the introverts the studiers the swimmers the cooks the partiers the motherers the leaders and find you.
You can both fit in and belong. You can fit in to your sorority and also belong to your friend group. And still appreciate the choice you made to join.
“Belonging is being somewhere where you want to be, and they want you. Fitting in is being somewhere you really want to be, but they don’t care one way or the other. Belonging is being accepted for you. Fitting in is being accepted for being like everyone else. I get to be me if I belong. I have to be like you to fit in.”
