Out of State Rush

by: oos

I am from the northeast and planning on rushing next year. Is the rush process different for oos?

Just sign up for IFC messages on their site and visit as many houses as you can, find the best group for you as an individual, and remember that rankings don't matter, it's where you fit in the best!

For Northeast, its SAM OR ZBT. Most of the other frats feed from Texas schools. UT only takes 6% from oos so you are limited but both are good choices. Go where you like the guys not on size or some BS ranking. Good luck.

Hands down SAM is the place for NE dudes. I think a good amount of their Fall PC was from the NY Metro.

East coasters usually fall within ZBT, SAM, or Sig Chi. Besides those 3 you should expect for over half your PC to be from Texas. Those 3 are personally the only ones I know of that have a diverse house

It’s very telling that a “diverse house” at UT means a house that has some people who aren’t from Texas in it.

For oos specifically the NE, SAM is where most wind up. The frats are majority Texas but that is only because of the low acceptance rate for oos.

The comments saying Sammy and ZBT have the most NE guys are accurate. That said, you shouldn’t limit yourself to rushing those fraternities.

If you want to rush a chapter and you don’t know anyone in it, the best way to do it is to find their rush chair’s and/or president’s cell and just shoot them a quick text telling them that you’re from the NE, don’t really know anyone, coming to UT and interested in rushing. Since you don’t know anyone, you’ll definitely have to make a good impression on the rush team, but it’s certainly doable. I wasn’t in Sammy or ZBT and there were always a couple out of state guys in each pledge class - so very doable.

You can find rush chair info by just googling “Texas sig ep” or “Texas ka” or any other chapter and going to their website. They should have rush info there. If not, contact the IFC and get the rush contact info for each chapter that way.
