Real, General Advice to PNMs

by: ligma

heres some actual advice thats not rooted in pushing for one srat or tearing one down:

which srat you end up in is not make or break. tons of intermingling in between srats especially if you put yourself out there.

even if you talk to one girl one day and love/hate her it doesnt mean youll love/hate that sorority. also dont believe stuff like “i dont wanna go aphi/zeta bc im not into appearances etc.” (this is just one ex dont freak out, theres tons of other stereotypes i couldve inserted right there) there are sooo many people in your pc/sorority that there is a variety of people in every single one. you can find your people in any group and furthermore, sometimes you end up being better friends with people you dont have a ton in common with — differences arent a bad thing.

finances: if youre worried ab how expensive tx greek life is, know you can offset the costs by living in the house. in almost every case, this ends up being cheaper than anything in wampus and typically includes meals and utlities! also, if you arent swimming in money, i would recommend thinking ab what life would be like in pkt. how would you feel if your sisters are regularly going on expensive trips, dinners, etc.? of course, you wont be the only one in your position and its possible you end up in a super close bond w those in a similar financial situation as you! just something to consider.

feeling unsure? your rho ghams can provide more info, but basically, if you drop before bid day you have the chance to get COBd. beware not every srat COBs but there are some good ones that do. however if youve alreaddy been dropped by them, they are going to look at other girls first. if youre a sophomore, this is kinda your last chance. very unlikely you will get a bid as a jr. if youre a freshman, you have a lot more options. contrary to what some posts here say, take my word, its much easier to rush as a sophomore (we have soph quotas). also this gives you the chance to find your people first. ok, so say you just want to give being in a srat a try before commiting full on. the first couple of weeks (before initiation) you dont pay your dues! so might as well try it out and then just drop before initiation if you want. if you take this route, you have to wait next year to rush again though.

if i think of more stuff or if you have generic questions/need advice leave it below and ill do my best to answer! :)
