So Pref is it?

by:

This sucks! I don’t want either of the two houses I have left. How did I carry good houses all week and have a great rush only to be dropped at this point? All my convos were really good and I felt like I really connected in other houses.
I’m so sad and frustrated!!! This has been a long week and I don’t know what to do??
Do I drop now and hope for a Spring rush?

do not drop! you have. no idea the memories and friendships coming your way. when i went through recruitment i wasnt thrilled either but i gave it a chance and it has changed my life. You really do end up where you are meant to be. all that means is the houses you do have left want you THAT bad and think you would fit in and want you as a life long friend. you want to be at a house that is DYING for you, not somewhere youre just another face. Trust the process, give the houses a shot, they are giving you one.

spring rush is very rare even in a year without a pandemic, and we have normal numbers going through rush. only two or three houses do it and its only a few bids so i wouldn't hold your breath

a lot of people on here will tell you to just stick with the house because you'll like it. to be honest though if you really know you wont like it, maybe you should trust your gut. like i cant believe im saying this but i had a similar experience last year. i only had one house for pref, and i really didnt want them. ended up dropping. i kept worrying maybe i made the wrong decision and that i was being too judgmental of the sorority. but after a few months at UT i realized i definitely made the right choice; i do not see myself fitting in with that group whatsoever. moreover, all my friends were in big 6 and if i had chosen that sorority i honestly wouldve felt alienated from them. it ended up being a better option for me to be gdi and just rerush later because i knew where i wanted to be and the people i wanted to be with. just because you get cut doesnt always mean that sorority doesnt want you. it happens by accident frequently.

Also keep this in mind, just about every group mixes and his friend groups that extend to all levels up and down. I know aphi, Zeta and pi phi have friend groups. I know DG and Tridelt and kd have friend groups, I know axo & DG have friend groups, I know aphi and KD have friend groups. I know adpi and piphi do too. it is one big greek family after all.

dude stop whining and learn that this is the way it is in recruitment. you are just as "special" as literally everyone else, if not less. I think that you should just drop based on your attitude towards your last two since they deserve more grateful and excited girls. I am so sick of rude pnms thinking they're too good. just do them the favor so they don't have to put up with you

Thanks for the advice those of you that were positive. I wasn’t complaining I was just disappointed which I think is pretty common. This is so hard not really knowing what to do and not having anyone to talk to. I think a lot of my friends feel the same way.

So I know u didn’t mean to throw a pity party but please remember that there are great girls in every group. And it really sucks when u are one of the members of a house that is a “disappointment” to a new member on bid day. It’s so shallow and superficial to think that you could really know anything about us (or us about you) in the 2-3 hours we have spent with you leading to bid day. So maybe just give it a try with a positive attitude?

1. Welcome to UT rush where every PNM is smart, beautiful, and accomplished. Be glad you have ANY invitations to Pref.

2. Go to your Pref parties with an open mind and heart. If at the end of the night you decide that you would rather never be in a sorority than be in one of those, then withdraw. You don’t know what the future holds for you. This might be your only chance or you could have a better outcome as a sophomore if you have tons of friends rushing and they are going to Pref at the chapters you wanted like the PP.

3. Read the “thinking about dropping to COB” thread on this page. The chapters you have might be the only options for COB, too.
