Why Sig Ep is mad. Their reputation is being damaged, and they could even get cleaned out by their nationals because some girl overindulged at a party, got herself in trouble, and is now suing them because she CHOSE to consume too much of their alcohol. I'm not in Sig Ep, but I can empathize with those guys, cause this literally could have happened at any party where alcohol is served. Also, since this is bringing negative attention to the UT Greek system in general, we shouldn't be too eager to jump on board with slandering them.

Exactly. What happened to them was pretty unfair. Totally different scenerio than this, though.

Scenario sure, but still comparable. Sig Ep did nothing more wrong than serving alcohol to minors, and not monitoring every single guest as far as I can tell. Neither of those things seem that bad IMO, and personal accountability would dictate that it's not their job to babysit the guests who are all adults who are present by their own free will.

I do have a question though...

If this happened in 2010, why is it just being brought to light now?

Sig Ep's nationals are definitely one of the most hardass, there are very few that are more likely to clean house on their chapters for any given reason.

Stutute of limitations on these things is usually two years, so they were probably at the filing deadline. Maybe the girl had some student loans to pay off.

Well that's very convenient for her. If she is that type of person that would do something that deceiving, then it comes to no surprise to me that she is also the type of girl that has no self-control at a party.

was under 21. You can't serve liquor to a minor.

Yes we are all aware that you aren't supposed to serve it to a minor, but that's simply a legal issue, 21 is an absurd drinking age and creates the only real legal issue here. That said, she was still legally an adult, and it was still her perogative to behave like one, not everyone else's to be her nanny.

Basically my point is that all they really did was not stop her from drinking their alcohol at a party. If you are in college, or have ever been to any sort of college party, you know that it's basically impossible to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors even if you have wrist bands and bar tenders. If the drinking age weren't right in the middle of the college population, that wouldn't even be a valid argument.
