Do you feel like the money you pay is worth it?

by: Longhorn

Just in your honest opinion, do you think the thousands of dollars are worth being in a frat? Of course memories are have no currency to it, but in general do you feel as if you are gaining something, in your future by the time you graduate? Besides the partying and bias ranking that in the end is temporary and erases after graduation. Did you frat help carve your future? Please be honest.

It could give you a solid in for jobs when you start applying if you have a brother that has a family member in the field you’re interested in. I’ll be a sophomore next year when I rush but a reason I’m rushing is to get an in for job opportunities! Go with the guys you fee you vibe with though and don’t be fake!

I get that, but from what I've heard, the connections aren't that good(basic jobs) (I mean that you can get similar opportunities if you applied with being associated in the frat). What about people wanting to be a doctor? Are there other connections that are actually exclusive if that makes sense?

See the most infamous UT GR TaBoO Post.

It slams all of the Chapter Officer's for skimming their Chapter's bank accounts. An ongoing rampant problem of larceny at UT. Everyone is aware of it but does little or nothing. At least 1/3 of your Chapter dues will be skimmed by it's officers in some way.

Read the TaBoO posts.

You don't need connections to be a doctor

Possibly getting an interview for med school would be a great connection, considering acceptance rates from med schools are similar to ivies colleges. Also having a certified job in a facility after med school is a great connection as well. There are many connections someone who aspires to be a doctor would benefit from if an alumni followed the same path.

Youre not going to get connections like that through a fraternity. Family friends are your best bet for a med school interview and residency. Also its not hard to get a certified job after med school

Honestly just depends on your finances, the dues aren't that much anyways especially for the experiences you get out of it. Well worth 8-10k for the good times, parties and friends.

honestly nah. our dues are ridicuously high, we're the 5th most expensive greek system and our greek system blows chunks, but then again, parents pay for it so its not like it really matters. also the whole "connections" thing isn't real. if youre going FIJI to begin with, you already have connections - and if you don't - you're not going FIJI. also it's not like alumni are just airdropping internships onto houses. have you seen the resumes on the FIJI website? theyre a joke.

Considering that most mid/top dues are 5-8k that isn't really expensive. Especially when tuition is so low. But yeah if you're thinking of getting 'connections' you'd be mistaken
