what's the deal with texas rho

I'm a GDI sophomore, so I don't know much about the context. I've heard some stuff about how Rho is a top tier frat here, and others hate them with their guts. As I understand it, they take a lot of ACC kids and aren't officially recognized by the university (They were SAE I think?) However, people seem to have mixed reactions about them.

There's been a few rho guys in my classes and I'll be honest, it's pretty obvious to tell they went to ACC, but they're still chill and friendly.

So what causes the mixed reactions? Do some people care that they're not recognized by UT a lot vs some don't care at all?

rho is still top tier its just the first on this campus to lead the frexit movement. Rho still mixes with pkt and has good parties like resurrection. Arguably sigep/zbp took their place, but no question rho is better than psi psi, delt, machi, etc.

No bc its easy to choose rho when theyre both independent. Those who care about affiliation will go elsewhere and those who dont will choose rho instead of sig ep.

The ACC kids have caused trouble for years. No national affiliation will probably make their numbers go down over time like KA’s did when they were independent. There’s a reason KA went back and reaffiliated

Apparently their dues are like 11 grand a year maybe more, who would want to pay that to be in a spirit group?

The truth is, there are some really good guys in rho, I’m friends with a handful that I hold in high regard, on the contrary however, their worst kids are terrible people, they bid kids that aren’t right in the head. They abuse girls and never grow up, these are the guys that miss hs and just wanna relive 4-7 more years of it. The truth is they got some good guys who you’ll meet, but they also have some absolutely scumbags.
