sig ep membership review
by: FactsNationals will be doing a comprehensive membership review of the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter at the University of Texas in the coming spring. Source: I know a regional guy who knows what goes on in the Richmond headquarters. Nothing but bad publicity coming from the UT-Alpha chapter. Most of the guys will be gone before May 2020.

SigEp Nationals doesn’t care at all about the issues they created with these unrealistic rules because they aren’t responsible for them. All that nationals has ever cared about is removing any liability from them so they can continue to pull in as much money as possible. All they have done is taken our money and given us the middle finger.

It's not fair to make an entire active chapter and decades of alumni suffer because of a couple of members got in trouble. Kick them out, not the whole chapter. The rest of Sig Ep has followed the rules and have had no issues. They are good guys - more so than a lot of other frats on campus.

A membership review is a process by which a group of alumni interview the current brothers and attempt to identify those who have the desire to be a part of a chapter that would aspire to the ideals of Sigma Phi Epsilon. Those that don’t wish to go through the process or are rejected are free to immediately join a fraternity that might be more appropriate to the experience that they seek. SigEp HQ would have liked nothing more than to have avoided this membership review – in the end it is an action of last resort, taken only when all other efforts to guide the chapter in improving its operations over several years had failed. On the surface, the chapter has seemed strong, with 150+ members and a good average GPA. However there are numerous underlying problems that could imperil the future of Sigma Phi Epsilon at the University of Texas.

Probably any brother (including alumni) would like to some transparency -- to see the framework/methodology to be applied during the review of the existing undergraduates. What are the specific metrics used in evaluating who is and who is not qualified to remain a brother at TX Alpha? Who is making the judgement?
