bottom or gdi??
by: bottomI went through rush this year as a sophomore and got a bid from one of the sororities that is considered "bottom tier" at UT. I like a lot of the girls, but I hate the rep of being in the sorority. When I party with my high school friends (most of whom went big 6), I feel left out and less than. Guys at frat parties will literally walk away when I say what sorority I'm in. I know it sounds shallow but at this point, I'm just wondering if it would be better to be a GDI?

You should thank them.
Your sorority does not define you. If you’ve made friends and found a sisterhood then you should stay. If you joined a sorority to impress guys...you joined for the wrong reasons. Just curious how many changes you are willing to make to get a guy? Perhaps you should consider rethinking your priorities.

You are the only one that can make this decision. UT has a lot of things to do besides the Greek scene. I think it depends if the sisterhood is worth it/more important. It sounds like you really care what your friends/frat guys think, and it’s not fun to have an inferiority complex. The “lower” ranked sororities main deficit is in frat relations. You could make some great friends & enjoy sisterhood if you stick it out. Good luck making the right decision.

I'm in PKT, and was previously at a gathering for a petroleum engineering organization with my roommate. A guy from the group seemed interested in talking to me, and I really liked him. We were hitting it off, and it was obvious (or so I thought), that he really liked me. Something came up about greeks, and when he found out I was in a sorority (same as my roommate), he said, "Well, I'm sorry to hear that." He WALKED AWAY! Not only was I in shock, but I was deeply hurt. I don't think some GDI's realize how mean they can come across. His tunnel vision was ridiculous.

I had a similar experience. At a pregame at a frat before one of the football games, I was talking to this girl because we were in line together and I just casually asked “oh what sorority are you in?” and she gave me the rudest look and i’m the rudest tone of voice she goes “Um. I’m not IN a sorority”. And I said “Oh cool.” And she goes again in the same tone “Which one are YOU in?”. And I told her and she goes “Oh. That’s nice for you” like straight out of a movie. And this was at a GREEK EVENT
