how hard is it for a northerner to rush at ut aust
by: northerngal
For a pretty, wealthy northern girl, how hard is it to get into a top tier sorority as a sophomore? I have a 3.8 GPA, and letters to all of the sororities (though, I'm not sure how strong some of them will be, since I do not know most of the ladies who wrote them for me).
Do I have a chance or should I go to another school with a less rec-oriented rush process?
Thanks in advance!

Let’s be honest: It isn’t always easy to succeed in your education or in reaching your career goals. It takes a lot of work, energy, and dedication. But we believe you can do it. Because for over 80 years we’ve been helping students within this University do just that, by providing an accredited university education that truly works. An education that prepares you for the real challenges you’ll face in the workplace by bringing the real world into the classroom. And by walking with you, mentoring and guiding you, every step of the way.

1. This sounds like someone is trolling. And 2.It's not a rec-oriented rush process, it's a knowing people oriented rush process. Have you made friends in the houses who can pull for you? That's important. If you've come to UT from the "north" or especially the east coast, you're probably pretty wealthy. Almost always the case. Here's the problem. None of that counts if you don't have connections in the state of TEXAS.

100% you're screwed. I was in the SAME position (Sophmore, 3.9 GPA, wealthy/pretty northerner).. Didn't know 1 person in Texas and I got cut from the top 6 right away.. Not sure what the sophmore quota situation currently is but a few years ago houses took 1 or 2 the most. I wouldn't count on getting a bid from the top 6 let alone DG, AXO or ADPi.. The lower tier houses are more open to taking out of state girls but its like a 10% chance. If you're smart you should take my advice and go to a school in the north.. You'll have a better college experience with normal, educated people.. Not a bunch of 17 year olds who plan on getting a "MRS" degree and plan their lives around OU weekend and what frat they'll choose to devirginize themselves to - Just run. Far away.

It has to be phony. What student who has the grades and exam scores for UT is really going to switch universities a week before school starts for Greek life? Ridiculous.
