frat reputations/descriptions
by: confusedkidI'm going to be a freshman at UT next year and I'm going to be rushing first sem. I'm a public health and pre med student, so I want to know about all the reputations and descriptions of the frats at UT in terms of the connections they have, parties, if they have fellow public health and pre med students, and everything there is to know before I choose a frat to rush. I want to join a frat that is relatively high on the social ladder so I have that "frat" experience, but I also want to join a frat that has social and professional connections to help me with my pre med career. So to sum it up, I want a frat that has that balance between partying and academics because I'm tryna keep good grades ya feel.

The fact that you don’t know what Rho is clearly means you don’t know much about Greek life at UT. There are 10-15 “real” frats that do “fraty” things. As for level of intelligence, a lot of pre med, CS and Engineering kids aren’t represented that well in the upper fraternities. A lot of times, to rush those bigger fraternities, you need contacts and a good rep, at this point, most of the Fiji and Rho kids know which fraternity they will be going too.
At UT, Austin Community College (ACC) kids rush some of the bigger fraternities (Rho, ZBT, KA etc). Just know that a lot of fraternities at UT throw parties, mix w various sororities, and do the frat experiences (formal, OU wknd, roundup). If you are really nervous about the commitment check out some of the middle sized fraternities, I know a couple of them only have UT students (Sammy, Lambda Chi, DU, etc). At the end of the day, UT is huge so find the group that fits your interests the best and chose the best guys for you.
