going local

by: Yolo

Nationals don’t really provide much in exchange for the heavy cost of national dues to cover insurance. Besides local alumni are what matter in the end. Going local is the way of the future.

Heavy cost of national dues? Top ones dues are like $40 a year.

My mom is in one of the top ones here and nationally and that is all she pays. I know bc she joked about stopping paying it when I pledged something else. Guess others could be different, but I bet not by much since it is a totally optional payment.

And how can you “going local” if you don’t know where you are going to live upon graduation? Strong alumnae groups really do offer some advantages. Now, is it worth choosing a chapter based on that? I wouldn’t think so!

the real problem is the Realestate grab that some nationals are doing on their locals.

Most frat houses in west campus are owned by nationals. SAE is an exception since their alumni housing board owns the house. That's why ATO lost their house since nationals owned it, but SAE got to keep theirs and re-brand.

Almost all UT houses are owned by local house boards, check the tax rolls.
