fall 2019 rush
by: NC to UTI plan on attending UT (McCombs)in Fall 2019 and want to pledge a fraternity. The only time I will be able to visit Austin is maybe late spring for a campus tour and then orientation. Need some direction and/or road map to get a bid. Am I really SOL on getting a bid to a top/middle tier based on my OOS status and lack of contacts?

There is a big difference between top tier and middle tier. For top you need to have a contact to get on lists, but OOS doesn't really matter that much as long as you can make a good impression while you're here. As far as middle tier goes, you can sign up on the Texas IFC website and their rush captains will reach out to you.
Also don't even bother rushing Rho :)

Reach out now to any contacts you have or can make through friends, friends of friends, etc. - also reach out to any rush captains (you can find some info on websites). Let them know when you will be there in spring and that you'd like to meet up for lunch, dinner or whatever. Meet as many people in different frats as possible then. Repeat the process with orientation, go to an early one, and try to get there a couple days early to meet people. Most frats have out of state members, you just have to work harder to make contacts.
