honesty
by: DallasTXRealistically speaking, how hard (if even possible) to get a bid from a "top-tier fraternity" (SAE, FIJI, KSig, SigEp)? I come from a very well respected private school in Dallas that has many students every year go to UT. Is it all about who you know/legacy or do they actually accept kids through round-up, etc.

Delt was good but never really top tier.
K Sig was really strong but started to decline in the very late 70's/early 80's. Can't remember if it was related to moving their house which was the most iconic at UT (a mammoth red brick colonial) to West Campus (sort of a mid century funky design). The original house was on the top of the hill on south side of 19th (MLK) across 19th from Player's and resembled the grand old houses of the SEC.
Tops at this time were Fiji, Phi Delt and ATO. ATO lost their house to a major fire right after Christmas Formals in '83 yet still continued to thrive until a major hazing incident a few years later resulted in their charter being pulled by their nationals and The University. Phi Delts demise started in the late 90's as their nationals went to dry housing which they resisted, numbers/financials fell and their national yanked their charter. Fiji remained the constant. SAE greatly benefitted from this and became top tier. KA was always OK but appealed to a different demographic and existed on the peripheral.

My mom said in the 80's and early 90's (not THAT long ago) Delt and ATO were top top. She said, SAE, Fiji, Delt, KA, and ATO were the main ones Theta liked. Sig Ep was middle, and Kappa Sig was low/middle. What happened? I mean why is Kappa Sig higher now? I understand how it could happen w/SigEp due to their nice house.
