fall 2018 frat ranks (new)

by: rush

Top:

1) FIJI & RHO (tie) - Both have strong alum bases (hence why Rho survived their suspension and is surprisingly still going strong with events like Rhocella and are pulling a 60+ PC), large PC’s of mostly cool guys, mostly great parties, impressive houses, mix with PKT and are the most wealthy on average.

2) Sig Ep - Basically have all of the above qualities except maybe a slightly weaker alum group and are slightly less wealthy on average, but throw slightly better parties. “Going dry” this year, we’ll see how that goes, overall a great frat but just not quite top of the top. Depending on how them and Rho’s years pan out they could switch spots.

3) ZBT, Sigma Chi, Kappa Sig, KA (tie) - Pretty strong alumni bases and average around same wealth level all around. ZBT parties the hardest of all the frats but often need to mix with others (fiji, sig ep) to do so. Good sorority relations and smart guys, house is a classic but could use renovation. Sigma Chi has some of the coolest guys and best sorority relations, and despite having a run-down house, have an idea location with Pi Phi and Zeta as neighbors. Renovations of the house may give them a tough couple years, we’ll see. Kappa Sig actives finally are living in their new house, which is nice although looks like a dorm. They throw more parties than the others in this tier but don’t always have as good of a turnout. Their sorority relations aren’t at the level of ZBT and Sigma Chi. KA has a really strong alum group that helped them recover from their fallout with nationals and they have thus have maintained good sorority relations, have decent parties and an OK house. They don’t have as many parties/parties as often as the others.

4) Delt - sorry to do this to Delt but their pledgeship is the longest and their house is in a terrible location (and despite being an nice house, isn’t nice enough to make up for being so far away) and they also seem to need spring rush to maintain a high volume of brothers. While still considered fringe top-tier Delt don’t quite compete with the above frats.

Mid:

1) Pike, Sammy (tie): both well-established on campus, good alumni bases, decent sorority relations. Sammy’s house is nicer right now and pike will be getting a new one soon. Pike parties more, both party hard. Pike has more members in cowboys/spurs but Sammy’s pledges and actives have better grades. Bot top of mid tier.

2) Phi Psi: despite having an insanely nice house and some large pledge classes, the guys do just not all belong in fraternities. Analogy made in a recent rankings post definitely fits: “weird guys in a nice car”.

3) LXA, Phi Delt: tbh don’t really know much about these frats apart from the fact that they exist and have low level sorority relations, small houses, small alumni bases, meh parties, not much wealth etc.

Bottom:

Being honest, there’s no point in ranking any others. Questioning whether LXA and phi delt should even be ranked but eh whatever.

Rho isn’t at the top.

Rho hasn’t shown any signs of faltering besides losing the name “SAE”. Still top.

And LXA/Phi Delt shouldn't even be on this list...

Above is right. Put Rho by itself. It is NOT a fraternity. It is a local name for a former SAE chapter—no pledge pin, no badge, no pledge or initiation ceremony, no SAE “brothers” ever.

Decent guys—maybe. But those will fade....

It is impossible to stay at the top and not be real IFC. Move Sig Ep up.

before you comment about the history of fraternties please do your reasearch bro. Phi Delt was the first fraternity at the University of Texas top house in the 70s and 80s. LXA has been around for more than 100 years so they definitley don't have "small alumni bases" pretty sure alumni are the only reason both of them are still around. Both have more alumni than for example Phi Psi

LXA was also a top house around that time before their house burned down. Please do your research before posting bud.

Phi Psi is older than LXA at UT. Doubt LX has more alumni.

Perhaps I shouldn’t have used the word “small”. A better word would have been “weak”. Sure, their alumni bases are probably the largest reason they’re still around, but this is the fall 2018 rankings we’re talking about. The amount of support which Phi Delt and LXA receive from their alumni bases in comparison to frats like Pike and Phi Phi (incoming new house and recently built massive new house thanks to their alum) is SMALL

Actually agree with this. Phi delta and lambda chi aren’t middle though

Yeah they are. They had solid years last year and deserve the status of mid tier. The rest of the frats not mentioned are bottom tier and irrelevant.

Phi delt being suspended for a year made them significantly worse? And Lamda chi has a bum hut

Where are you getting your numbers for rho’s PC? Regardless, if it does happen to be 52 that is still considered a strong pledge class.

Technically speaking, as in according to their nationals, sig ep is “going dry”. I put it between quotation marks for a reason buddy.

Yes, I corrected myself on sigma chi’s neighbors, my mistake. As for sigma chi getting their new house finished in the spring? LOL. Sigma chi’s construction BEGINS in the spring

KS house may have suites but doesn’t have too much going for it, phi psi’s house, for example, is much nicer (let me be clear that phi psi isn’t even in the same realm as KS in terms of quality as a frat as a whole, I’m solely comparing houses). They do have the lodge and a decent backyard but the house feels like more of a dorm than a fraternity

Even if delts house were doubled in size and completely repainted and refurnished it would be diffucult for them to make up for the poor location.

SigEp is getting alcohol out of fraternity houses. SigEp homes will be places where students can learn and where faculty, parents and friends are safe and welcome. #NewNormal

After having been given ample opportunity to do so, fraternities have proven that they are incapable of regulating and controlling themselves. Yes, there will always be rogue chapters who tarnish the fraternities image; but the time has now come for universities and colleges to tell them what they can and cannot do. It's not gonna be pretty, and we will probably see a decline in the numbers of fraternal organizations. Only those that get on board and embrace these opportunities will survive.

SigEp is proud to be leading the fraternity industry out of the morass of alcohol abuse and risky behavior.
