is recruitment fair here?

by:

Does rush work in the way it’s supposed to at UT? Does a girl visit the houses, connect with whichever ones she’s closest with, and get a bid to the best house for her? Or do you have to have basically prepared for rush since infancy to get a bid here?

not sure what "fair" means. I think connections probably matter at any school that is 85% in state students. However, knowing someone in a sorority at ANY college would be helpful. Here it just matters because so many girls rushing know people already. Yes, it takes connections to get into a few sororities here. However, there are a lot of great sororities. Just go in with an open mind and don't be offended or hurt if you get dropped places where you don't have any connections but lots of other PNMs do. It is nothing personal. If they knew and liked you already, they would probably pull for you. If you have an open mind you will find a sorority you love....so many great girls in all chapters.

i'm in a big six house here, so speaking from that perspective, the answer is both yes and no. the reality is that a lot of the girls who go any sorority at most state schools knew someone in the house before recruitment started. it might seem like it puts girls from out of state or without connections at a disadvantage. tbh it kind of does. but it's just the way it has to be. girls want to be in the same house as their friends, and sorority girls want their friends to be in their house. and beyond that, if sororities don't have at least some sort of idea of who they want, then it's difficult to find a pledge class of genuine, well-rounded girls who you're confident would be a great fit when you only have a week to get to know them. if you don't know anyone, it isn't impossible to get in any one house. you may meet a girl you really connect with during rush, and girls will pull for someone who they meet during recruitment and really like. but it's definitely tougher than if you already know someone who will advocate for you, tell their friends about you, etc.

Yes and no. Depends on the house.

Super hard. With the houses having preferred lists it reduces fairness. If the girl keeps an open mind it increases fairness.
